A graceful and refined design by Stephens Waring Yacht Design and world class workmanship by Van Dam, unite to create A Great Lakes Cruising Sloop unlike any other. The yacht exudes "classic", with the hull seemingly born from the restrained overhangs and subtle tumblehome of an earlier era. An elliptical transom and a traditional bulwark detail add to the classic appeal of this yacht. The cabin trunk and hard dodger continue a theme in spare elegant styling that somehow yields a softening touch to the eye by the mix of strong camber and elliptical shaped details in the corner of the superstructure elements.
A spirit of tradition combined with a conservative sailing platform delivers lively performance and allows the yacht owner to enjoy many years of cruising. The ease of sail handling comes from a manageable sail plan with large mainsail and smaller, non-overlapping jib, while all major trim controls and functions are arranged in the cockpit area. The most notable feature in the sail plan is the custom designed wooden spar equipped with a modern carbon fiber roller furling boom. The simple suit of sails minimizes work in sail handling, yet is plenty ample for the easily driven performance underbody.
The interior arrangement is uncomplicated, yet comfortable, and will have an "open" feel with a gourmet galley and comfortable, roomy, seating and dining arrangements. There will be a spacious head with enclosed shower and a forward cabin with plenty of room to move about.
Construction is to Van Dam's high and uncompromising standards with classic and elegant joinery on display throughout the yacht. Italmas, named for a beautiful flower growing wild in Europe, is a showcase for the attention to detail that places a Van Dam in a league of its own.
